How do I move teeth in Smile Studio?
Smile Studio is a separate download and runs on Microsoft Windows only. Once it’s open, click Edit mode in the top left before making any movements.
Selecting a tooth
Hover over the tooth you want to adjust and right click to select it. The tooth turns green when selected.
Two ways to move a tooth
The software calculates how many sequences each movement needs, based on a standard tooth speed of 0.25 mm per sequence.
First way: the icons. Hover over the grey arrows on a movement icon to see what it does. Once you’ve found the right one, click the blue arrow. Each click is 0.05 mm. The icons cover distal/mesial, tip distal/mesial, in/out, intrude/extrude, rotate distal/mesial and torque in/out.
Second way: the manipulation wheel. Right click and drag the wheels. These movements are view dependent:
- Rotate mesial/distal: drag the green axis wheel.
- Translate mesial/distal: drag the blue arrow.
- Translate lingual/buccal: drag the red arrow.
- Crown tip mesial/distal: drag the red axis wheel.
- Translate intrude/extrude: drag the green arrow.
- Torque lingual/buccal: drag the blue axis wheel.
Moving around the model
- Rotate: left click and hold.
- Pan and drag: press and hold the mouse wheel.
- Zoom in: scroll the mouse wheel forward.
- Zoom out: scroll the mouse wheel backwards.
- Arch selection: hide or show an arch by clicking a section of the navigation wheel.
- View control wheel: set view angles for one arch or both. Hover over any section for a tooltip.
Starting over on a tooth
Right click to select the tooth, then click Reset Aligner to return it to its original pre-treatment position.
Before you leave
Click Save in the left toolbar once you’ve finished. Movements aren’t kept otherwise.
