The flat plane splint is a stabilization splint with flat occlusal acrylic for the upper or lower arch, used as a diagnostic tool or treatment appliance.

It doesn't index or try to lock in the opposing arch, so it suits cases that need a free mandibular position. We make it in poured acrylic on a 3 mm tray as standard. If the patient is in active treatment, we leave brackets and hardware on unless your Rx asks us to remove them.

FAQ

Questions about the Flat Plane Splint.

Our flat plane splint is one: flat occlusal acrylic that doesn't index the opposing arch, so the mandible stays free.

Yes. It works as an orthodontic diagnostic tool or as a treatment appliance.

3 mm as standard, with 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm options.

No, not by default. Note it on the Rx if you want brackets or hardware removed first.

It's the same flat plane design. We make it in poured acrylic, so it's an acrylic splint rather than a soft guard.
