MDA
The MDA appliance is a hygienic alternative to the Pendex: a 12 mm expansion screw with laser-welded sheaths, for upper expansion first and molar distalization second.
Distalization
MDA
A 12 mm expansion screw carries laser-welded sheaths that take the distalizing springs, so you can remove and reactivate them chairside. Rests or bands give extra anchorage. With no palatal acrylic, there's less for food and plaque to collect around.
Anchorage
Molar bands, premolar rests or bands
Patient age
Late mixed or permanent dentition
Correction
Expansion, then molar distalization
Compliance
Low, screw turns only
Turnaround
10 business days or faster
When it’s the right call.
Use it when
Upper molar distalization that also needs expansion
Cases where you want no acrylic on the palate
Class II molar relationship without headgear or elastics
Distalization you want to reactivate chairside
Consider another appliance when
You want a palatal Nance button for anchorage
See Pendex
You want the molars held steady during expansion, then released
See T-Rex
An 8 mm screw gives enough expansion
See PHD
Options you can prescribe.
Anchorage
Choose bands, ROC crowns, crowns or OnBRACE® (note OnBRACE® on the Rx). Also available 3D printed from your scan.
Click screw
Order an optional click screw in place of the standard screw.
What every MDA

Send these with the case and it goes straight onto the bench. If anything’s missing, we call you before we start.

What is the MDA appliance?
A hygienic alternative to the Pendex. It uses a 12 mm expansion screw with laser-welded sheaths, so you can reactivate it for more distalization.
MDA vs PHD: what's the difference?
The screw size. The MDA uses a 12 mm expansion screw and the PHD an 8 mm screw, and the concept is otherwise the same.
Do you expand and distalize at the same time with the MDA?
No. You finish the expansion phase before the distalization phase starts.
How is the MDA anchored?
On bands, ROC crowns or crowns, with rests or bands for extra anchorage. It's also available with OnBRACE®.
